It's a gas model, right now I'm getting just under 30 driving to and from work. I suspect you'r right on the towing issue though and I may reconsider. Actually the van at 17 mpg may win out just for convenience, space, and the ability to stop for the night more easily.

Hopefully you bought the diesel model or else you're not saving much gas with that thing by the time you start towing. The gas New Beetles are rated to something like 25-28mpg. A late 90's Corolla is rated 36 highway and would tow about as well.

I'm looking forward to reading about the teardrop in the coming days. Cool stuff!

I've beem toying with buying or making a trailer same day but it would be a ways down the road. One of the 2012 plans is to put a trailer hitch on my Express van. A teardrop would be an economical way to add more space and comfort. I like the idea of that over a pop-up.

Please keep posting. Your work and style have inspired a lot of us who enjoy part-time or full-time living in a vehicle.

My apologies to the two who left comments. Due to unforeseen complications trying to maintain my old format your comments didn't transfer when I was forced to conform my blog to a standard layout. Though I prefer the short highlight with option to click to the full article format, having lost my ability to publish my posts independently and link to them on my blog means I must standardize with the rest of the blogging world.
