Tippy, yes that bed is a custom size not quite 6' in length. It proved to short for me as I like to stretch out. The current version is a twin sized down the drivers side of the van. It's only held in place by 3 screws making it quickly removable.

Hi Curtis. I like the way you have your van so flexible that you can go back and forth between stealth and cargo modes in short order. How you plan to use the van is definitely an important thing to consider. Your post was really good food for thought.

I made all the stuff permanent in my van. Due to that, it looks like I'm going to have to use a hitch and trailer to move cargo.

The only advantage I can see to going the permanent route is that it has given me the option to build and enhance without needing to accomodate a mode change. Some of the creature comforts might night work to well to move in and out.

As always, it's really fun to see how others do things. Each day is a new learning experience.

Hi Scott, Yes having some mechanical ability is almost a must these days. Repairs or modifications will cost you a fortune if you have to pay to have everything done. Thanks for the reply Curtis. I suppose a van must, first and foremost, lend itself to myriad uses. I hope the work on Tangent Lodge is coming along nicely despite the wet weather. I wonder how your experience has been working on the internals of the van itself. I imagine you have to become your own mechanic to some extent, or pay out the nose for impromptu repair out on "the road." Have you done some work on it yourself? What resources have you found? I appreciate any information you can spare.

Hi Scott, glad you like the website. Unfortunately the Stealth Van is currently in Cargo Van mode. Beyond having it insulated, paneled, and painted all the furnishings have been put in storage while I reconstruct the Fannie Mae foreclosure cabin I recently bought. As I think of new useful information I will continue writing the Stealth Van website but it will probably be quite some time before the van returns to mobile living quarters.

Hi there Curtis! I've just discovered the Stealth Van Saga in the past couple days after returning from a month-long climbing and hiking roadtrip in California. I came back with van-living stars in my eyes and was excited to find such a wealth of information right here in my own midwestern town. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, I wonder if I might take a peek in the van some time just to get an idea of the amount of space and get my gears rolling on how it might be put to good use. Thanks!
